The Department of Engineering of the Università degli Studi della Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” (SUN) performs research and educational activities in several scientific areas, including Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Industrial electronics and electrical power systems, Robotics, Physics, Telecommunications and Information Systems Engineering.
SUN has gained expertise in cloud computing programming and security as well as in the programming of embedded systems. SUN has been a partner of the CoSSMic program (Collaborating Smart Solar-powered Microgrids), an EU funded Horizon 2020 project, that aims to couple solar panels with smart energy sharing solutions and storage capabilities. Here, the department contributed to the framework design and to the platform development. Moreover, it developed a simulation tool that can be used for the evaluation of business models and develop optimization strategies for energy management in smart neighbourhoods.
SUN leads the evaluation of the innovation effects of the project regarding the business model and deployment of the technical solution. Furthermore, SUN is responsible for the research data management including security and privacy issues of the collected data.
